“… Hey, I love Superhero flicks. I the covers with a flashlight. But the need by the major studios to turn gigantic profits has impaired the ability of filmmakers to create original stories.”
A LITTLE ABOUT YOU AND THE CRAFT:
Filmmaking Specialty: Original music, audio post production.
# Years Experience: Over 30
A little about your journey as a filmmaker: Music education student turned broadcaster turned film/TV composer and audio
Equipment You Use on Typical Project: All the audio gear you’d expect…high end microphones, monitoring and mixing gear. Editors.
Majority of Recent Projects: Mostly documentaries of late. But also some scripted drama.
YOUR TRACK RECORD:
Largest Project: Hard to say. It’s kind of like asking who your favorite child is. Some have been more high corny salesspeak. But it’s true.
Notable Mentors: They’re all teachers. Ziggy Hurwitz, with whom I studied music composition privately for seven years. Helen (Later I would become a radio announcer.) Andy Wilson, my first music teacher and band director. He saw something in me.
Notable Projects: See “Largest Project” comment above.
Festival Screenings/Awards: Too many films in festivals to recall all of them. 11 Emmy awards, all for documentaries I scored
FILMS HAVE MADE PEOPLE LARGER THAN LIFE… YOUR THOUGHTS?
Your favorite famous person and why their influence improves our world: John Williams. If you argue that film improves our believe anyone has written as many memorable and accessible movie themes in the past 50 years than John Williams. I also love the man.
JUST FOR FUN
A recent a ha moment: When struggling to get tuned in to a director’s vision for a film and how that affects the music and story.
The next exciting thing. Hopefully a return of more thoughtful, human stories to the Cineplex. Hey, I love Superhero flicks. I the covers with a flashlight. But the need by the major studios to turn gigantic profits has impaired the ability of filmmakers to create original stories.
